Mentorship for Female Engineers

Today is International Women’s Day.  We celebrate Women’s Day today but in my life we celebrate strong, smart, powerful women every day!  As a business owner and a mother of three girls I have both a professional and a personal mission to provide more parity of opportunity for women in our world.  For many years I have hired, trained and coached women – some who have gone on to build their own successful companies that bring them and their clients joy.  Nothing makes me more proud!  I have also had the opportunity to serve organizations locally and globally building and growing strong programs and events that support our community.  One of those initiatives is Tech Women|Tech Girls for the New Hampshire Tech Alliance.

As a next step to further grow my mission both personally and professionally I have teamed up with another strong, smart, successful woman – Melissa Jurkoic – to launch an initiative under Benson Consulting called Diversify Thinking.     Diversify Thinking will provide programs, events and training to show how more diverse individuals, experiences and voices will lead to greater innovation, products in our markets and of course better places to work and live.

One of our first programs is one we feel so strongly about and is already making an impact. With the amazing support of our sponsors C3 Metrics, Oracle Dyn, Raytheon and GreenPages, we have launched a mentoring program in partnership with the University of New Hampshire College of Engineering & Physical Sciences. The program matches undergraduate students with industry mentors. Our matching process focuses on the goals of the students and on creating space for a transformational relationship with someone who will have different backgrounds and experiences – and hopefully can remain a sounding board in the future.

I am excited that NHBR covered our program in a recent article. Be sure to read the details here.
